Cutting a vertical arc with Router-CIM

Top  Previous  Next

In some instances it may become necessary to cut a vertical arc that you can only draw on the part from a side or non-world UCS.

Router-CIM normally would treat this arc as a horizontal cut and make the toolpath normal (perpendicular) to the arc plane, as the machine cannot 'see' an arc that does not have its radius in the current plane.

In order to draw geometry on the side of the part and cut it from the vertical (X-Y) plane, you must turn that arc into a 3D Polyline in AutoCAD so that the machine can cut it as small segments.  Router-CIM has tools to help you accomplish that easily.

To start, create your geometry using a UCS that is not in the World (X-Y) plane.
