Appearance/Symbol Recognition (AREC)

 

Solid-CIM 3D (SCIM) has an Appearance/Symbol Recognition (AREC) Add-In that provides for the recognition of Autodesk appearances and specialized face loops in solids from other solid modeling software. These appearances and symbols provide special instructions to SCIM for Top Side, X-Axis direction (grain direction) and Edge Band definitions.

 

AREC provides control of the following features:

1.Top Side – specifies which face in a solid is the top side of a part.

2.X-Axis – specifies the direction for the X-Axis of a part (grain direction).

3.Edge Band – specifies the offset value of a part edge allowance for edge banding either on a single face or the entire edge of the part.

 

Each of these AREC controls consists of two properties:

1.AutoCAD/Inventor Appearance – An appearance can be applied to a face of a solid in AutoCAD and Inventor applications.

2.Specialized geometric Loop definition (Symbol) – A specialized loop can be defined on a solid face. This loop can be found by SCIM and its associated appearance is applied to the face. This AREC control can be applied in applications that do not have appearances.

 

EdgeBand Appearance/Symbol Explanation:

A Single edgeband type applies an offset to the part only on a single edge. Each edge of the part that has edgebanding that may vary or does not go completely around the part can be defined.

 

A Round edgeband type applies an offset to the part around all edges. Only one round edgeband type needs to be applied to a single edge face and all the edges of the part would have the offset applied.

 

When defining parts in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, appearances would be used to define AREC controls for edgebanded faces and top side definition. The X-Axis (grain direction) will need to use the symbol in either AutoCAD or other 3D solid modeling software. X-Axis (grain direction) can be controlled in Autodesk Inventor through appearances or the symbol.

 

When defining parts in 3D solid modeling software applications other than Autodesk Inventor, symbols would need to be applied to the faces of a solid part.
